Terms of Service

Last updated: 8 August 2026

Welcome to SpiceBook! These terms are the ground rules for using our website and app. They’re written to be readable, not to trip you up. By using SpiceBook, you agree to them — so here’s everything in plain language. Questions? Email hello@spicebook.co.

What SpiceBook is

SpiceBook is a romantasy scene-finder. We read the books and map where the romantic and spicy scenes happen, with our own original summaries, spice levels, and tags so you can skip straight to the good parts. We never reproduce the actual text of a book — only scene locations and our own descriptions and ratings.

You need to be 18+

SpiceBook features explicit romance content and is for adults 18 and over. By using it, you confirm you’re at least 18.

Your account

  • Please give accurate info when you sign up.
  • Keep your password (or your Google/Facebook login) to yourself — you’re responsible for what happens on your account.
  • One account is for one person. Don’t share your login or let others use your membership.
  • Tell us at once if you think someone else got into your account.

Library Membership & billing

  • A Library Membership unlocks the full app. It’s a subscription that renews automatically each month until you cancel.
  • Payments are processed securely by Stripe. By subscribing, you authorise the recurring charge to your payment method.
  • Cancel any timefrom your account — your membership then stops renewing, and you keep access until the end of the period you’ve already paid for.
  • Except where the law requires otherwise, payments already made aren’t refundable for partial months.
  • If we ever change the price, we’ll let you know in advance, and the new price only applies to renewals after that.

Using SpiceBook fairly

Please don’t:

  • Copy, scrape, resell, or redistribute our summaries, ratings, or other content.
  • Share, resell, or give away your account or membership.
  • Try to break, overload, hack, or reverse-engineer the site.
  • Use SpiceBook for anything unlawful or abusive.

What belongs to whom

SpiceBook’s content — our scene summaries, spice levels, tags, writing, branding, and the site itself — belongs to us and is protected by copyright. You get to enjoy it for your personal, non-commercial reading; you don’t get to reuse it elsewhere.

Book titles, author names, and covers belong to their respective owners. We reference them to help you find books — SpiceBook isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by the authors or publishers.

Things you contribute

When you rate a scene or request a book, you let us show and use that contribution to run and improve SpiceBook. Keep contributions respectful and lawful — we may remove anything that isn’t.

Affiliate links

Some “Buy on Bookshop” links are affiliate links — if you buy through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It helps keep SpiceBook running, and supports indie bookstores too. 💛

No guarantees (the honest bit)

SpiceBook is provided “as is.” We work hard to keep our scene maps and ratings accurate, but they’re our own editorial judgement and can be subjective or occasionally off. We can’t promise the service will always be uninterrupted or error-free, and we’re not liable for indirect or incidental losses arising from using it. Nothing here limits rights you have under applicable consumer law.

Ending things

You can delete your account any time by emailing hello@spicebook.co. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or abuse the service.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as SpiceBook grows. We’ll change the “Last updated” date above, and for significant changes we’ll give you a heads-up. Continuing to use SpiceBook means you accept the current terms.

Governing law

SpiceBook is based in Canada, and these terms are governed by the laws of Canada.
